DP World is rolling out its Global Education Programme across a number of countries worldwide, following a successful pilot.
Volunteers from 17 of the company’s locations in the UAE, India, Pakistan, Senegal, UK, Argentina and the Philippines are delivering content to engage young people in subjects relating to trade and logistics, which the company says are often overlooked. Topics include sustainability, port management, geography, mathematics, design and technology, and the maritime sector.
The Global Education Programme aims to tackle the issue of recruitment and skills. A survey carried out by YouGov and DP World earlier this year, which found that less than a third of 8-14 year olds in the Middle East and North Africa know what trade and logistics mean.
The English language pilot, which was recently trialled in seven countries, resulted in over 90% of teachers saying that the course helped school children learn about subjects that their schools didn’t cover, and 85% said they would be likely to recommend DP World as an employer to pupils.
