Co-op Bank pledges 40% of senior roles will be female by 2020

The Co-operative Bank has now announced its target for increasing and improving gender diversity within its senior ranks.

As part of the bank’s commitment to the HM Treasury’s Women in Finance Charter, they are aiming to meet a target of 40% female representation within more senior roles by 2020. The target also included an eight per cent increase over the next four years.

59% of the bank’s total staff body are female, including 39% of senior management – which is compiled of an executive team and most senior leadership positions.

Steven Pickering, Chief Risk Officer for the bank, comments on the pledge: “As a bank defined by its distinctive values and ethics, The Co-operative Bank is delighted to commit to this target, which we think is realistic and will deliver change within our organisation.  We will be putting in place clear measures to help us deliver this 2020 target and will also seek to exceed this target, if possible, beyond 2020.
