Fashion retailer Asos has rebuked claims of poor working conditions and mistreatment of staff after an exposé by BuzzFeed News revealed allegations of exploitative contracts.
The report was carried out in its Barnsley warehouse, and claimed to find evidence of intrusive and “embarrassing” security checks and docking pay if a worker is a single minute late.
Chief Executive Nick Beighton has now admitted that in a “large facility” such as Barnsley “not everything is going to be perfect all the time” – The Telegraph reports.
Beighton disputed allegations that the warehouse was run like a Victorian workshop, claiming that this would not be productive or practical. He went on to deny all accusations, saying that he was “disappointed that inaccurate and misleading things have been said about how we manage our warehouse”.
