BBC stars paid over £150K a year to be revealed

BBC journalists and presenters paid over £150,000 a year are to be publically named under new government plans.

The Department of Culture has told the BBC it must reveal the salaries of the 109 TV and radio presenters who earn more than £150,000 a year – The Guardian reports.

The government hopes to introduce greater transparency to publicly funded bodies, as suggested in last June’s EU referendum when David Cameron made an agreement with the BBC to disclose the pay of on-air talent earning more than £450,000 a year.

However, PM Theresa May and Karen Bradley, Culture Secretary, decided to reduce the amount, meaning that many of the corporation’s best-known journalists will have their pay announced.
