Dropbox employee's supposed mistake leads to massive data leak

Cloud storage firm Dropbox has been hacked, resulting in the theft of over 68 million users’ email addresses and passwords.

The attack apparently took place over three years ago, in 2012, at which time Dropbox reported the loss of email addresses but not passwords, according to The Guardian.

Troy Hunt, an independent security researcher, discovered the data leak after finding both his and his wife’s passwords online.

“There is no doubt whatsoever that the data breach contains legitimate Dropbox passwords, you simply can’t fabricate this sort of thing,” he commented.
