The surprising link between workplace bullying and animal behaviour

Some workplaces could be compared to a jungle, but it seems the modern office has more in common with the animal kingdom than first thought.

Edith Cowan University’s Dean of the School of Business and Law, Maryam Omari, is blending zoology with modern workplace analysis to identify common traits which often contribute to workplace bullying – Guardian Express reports.

According to Omari, workplace bullying often revolves around power plays, instinct and survival of the fittest – all traits believed to link back to human beings animalistic origins.  

Speaking at a recent conference Omari said sectors with competitive, high pressure and hierarchical workplace environments were the most likely to suffer from bullying incidents.
