Female employees earn on average 18% less than men, according to new research from the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS).
The report highlighted the challenge facing our current UK Government regarding the gender pay gap and wage inequality.
The research from the IFS also found that the pay gap experienced by women increases after they have children, suggesting that pregnant workers may be missing out on the chance of promotions and pay rises.
The Guardian reports that the current 18% hourly pay gap has decreased from 23% in 2003 and 28% in 1993, according to the figures from the IFS.
