Deliveroo boss, William Shu, says that UK employment laws need updating, following a dispute between riders over a new trial pay structure.
In an interview with the SundayTimes, Shu said that the workplace is changing as individuals seek more flexible options, arguing that the regulations also need to adapt.
“In the economy as a whole you’re going to see more of this kind of work,” he said. “There are laws drawn up years ago that may be less relevant for today’s economy.”
The trial for the new pay structure would have seen the current hourly rate of £7 an hour drop to £3.75 for each delivery. Workers were concerned that this would lead to lower earnings.
