'Water cooler' moments vital to staff wellbeing

All employees should understand the importance of staying hydrated whilst working in an office, but a recent report has found that water is actually the main redeemer of bad workplace nutritional habits.

The survey, conducted by Taylor & Francis, had researchers Carolyn Thomas, Jennifer Sedell, Charlotte Biltekoff and Sara Schaefer explore the eating habits of a group of 25 workers at the University of California, USA.

The report looked at how much self-control employees exerted during the day and what they consumed over a 24-hour period. The research also proved that “watercooler moments” were vital to staff wellbeing, both mentally and physically, on a day-to-day basis.

The study found that employees who do not usually drink water at home would drink it in the office, as it is readily available and free.
