The BBC could be made to reveal the names of celebrities earning more than £143,000 a year, as MPs call on the broadcasting company to lay their salaries bare.
The move comes as politicians call for a new era of openness and honesty between institutions and the general public.
The white paper report also put down rules which force the BBC to publish the identities of stars earning above £450,000. However, the House of Commons Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee has now said that this figure should be reduced to £143,000 - in line with rules on executive pay.
The Guardian reports a BBC spokesperson as commenting: “The BBC has led the way in transparency by publishing details of […] salaries over £150,000, and already publishes more information about talent pay than other broadcasters.
