With the Rio Olympics fast approaching, HR departments everywhere are once again faced with the decision of whether to embrace the event and allow workers to take time to watch the spectacle– or whether to attempt to persuade staff to put work first.
With many companies choosing to air the Euros earlier this year, it has been found that staff believe showing important events in the workplace would in fact boost their productivity.
In a survey of 894 employees across the UK by HR and employment law specialist Peninsula, 64% reported being more productive as a result of their employers allowing them to watch sporting events.
The survey, which aimed to examine how businesses managed employees during the first half of the summer of sports, also revealed that 46% of employees want clearer policies regarding watching sporting events at work.
