Over a million people aged 65 and over are still working as they head into their 70s.
The number of older workers has tripled since 2002, according to recent data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS).
However, those who do choose to retire early may face poorer mental and physical health if they lose private health insurance from an employer.
The study from Georgia State University found that private health insurance is an important factor for the health of early retirees, and those who maintain steady coverage had better health during retirement.
