80% of HR staff admit to being dishonest at work

HR and IT workers are the professions most likely to lie at work, according to new research from webexpenses.

The report found that four out of five HR employees in Britain have committed at least one deceitful act at work. The survey asked 2,000 HR staff across the UK, of which 39% openly admitted to being dishonest in the workplace.

HR ranked alongside IT, which also tops the list at 80%, against the UK average of 74%. At the other end of the scale, those working in sales, media and marketing jobs are the most trustworthy – only 60% admitted to lying.

The top reason HR employees gave for being dishonest was that they believe it’s ‘normal’ to be dishonest at work, with half (50%) citing this as their main excuse. More than one in ten (13%) said their bosses were dishonest so they felt more relaxed about bending the rules too.
