The issue of mothers in the workplace has been placed in the international spotlight, as Theresa May’s bid to become Britain’s newest Prime Minister proves successful.
The race to Number 10 between Andrea Leadsom and May culminated with Leadsom stepping down, after she was forced to apologise to May over comments regarding motherhood and its influence on the suitability of both candidates.
Leadsom apologised to May after suggesting in a weekend newspaper interview that being a mother made her a better candidate for the top job.
In The Times, Leadsom wrote that May, who has no children - "possibly has nieces, nephews, lots of people.
