McDonald's worker sues after being fired 'for having HIV'

A worker at global fast food chain McDonald’s is suing his former employer after he claims he was fired for being HIV positive.

The employee, named John Doe in the court papers, said that he had admitted to the restaurant’s General Manager to having “an interest” in a co-worker – who he had earlier confided in about having HIV.

The Mirror reports that Doe had been questioned earlier by his manager over having the virus, and was told that he may lose his job. Apparently, a female employee had been fired from her role at the café for having HIV.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has taken the case up against franchisee Mathews Management, following Doe’s firing from the Bentonville, Arkansas, USA, branch of the outlet in February 2015.
