Two municipal employees at a Spanish council who have not turned up for work for the past 15 years will now face disciplinary proceedings.
The two males, a chauffeur and a gardener, have been receiving full pay from Jerez council in Andalucía without working a single shift, as part of an alleged deal with local unions.
Both employees were registered representatives of the Confederación General del Trabajo, CGT (the General Confederation of Labour), which gives employees the right to divide their time between their jobs and union activities.
However, an audit by the councils’ HR department found that neither of the men had clocked a single day at work in 2015 and 2016.
