British Airways worker felt 'prostituted' when told to wear heels, skirt & makeup

A former British Airways employee has spoken out about how she felt “prostituted” when instructed to wear heels, skirts and makeup at work.

Ruth Campion, the employee in question, said this policy was in place to make cabin crew “more sexy.” The uniform requirements were in place from the moment they left the house.

She was giving evidence to the Petitions Committee with Nicola Thorp - the employee who was sent home for not wearing heels and whose petition calling for a ban on the “outdated” practice received over 100,000 signatures.

"For an employer to tell me that I need to do that in order for the business to have a certain image, it made me akin to being prostituted,” Campion said.
