Using Facebook at work is more important than annual promotions

Workplace perks are an important consideration when joining an organisation, but the views of the future generation on the best work perks highlights the importance of social networking and employer expectations.

The ability to access social media at work was voted as important by 68% of students, with the only benefit above that being annual pay rises, according to research by job search app Debut.

Accessing social media at work was rendered more important than almost all of the other posed workplace benefits; including annual promotions, cyclical bonuses, gym memberships, subsidised lunches, company-provided technology devices, a company car and healthcare/dental schemes, according to the expectations of work report which surveyed 12,000 students.

Perhaps accounting for their request to be able to scroll through social media feeds are their expectations for mandatory benefits; with 85% expecting annual pay rises, 80% expecting healthcare and dental schemes and 60% wanting gym memberships.
