Worker fired after taking sausages from work fridge

A fair work commission has ruled that a woman who was fired after she took sausages and salad from her work fridge was fairly dismissed.

Mosman Council, in New South Wales, Australia, sacked Casual Operations Assistant Genna Merrin after she removed “council-owned food” from the work fridge and took it home – The Daily Telegraph reports.

Merrin, who had worked at the council for more than 16 years, admitted she had taken “approximately” 10 uncooked sausages and salads at the end of a function at the Sports Centre.

She claimed she only did so after she was offered the food by a volunteer for Bushcare, the organisation holding a Christmas party at the venue at the time.
