Britain’s ‘Queen of Shops’ has advocated for women to take as much paid maternity leave as they want, claiming they shouldn’t have to inform their employer when they plan to return to work.
Retail guru and TV personality Mary Portas said restrictions on maternity leave were holding back too many women from having children, the Daily Mail reports.
However, Portas, who was previously appointed by the government to run a review into the nation’s high street stores, was ridiculed by some business leaders who claimed the uncapped maternity leave would send many employers bankrupt.
Speaking to an audience of business leaders at the annual Fortune Most Powerful Women International Summit, Portas said: “I genuinely believe we need to sort out maternity [leave].
