Worker sacked over claims he refused to speak English

A car worker from Birmingham has been dismissed following claims that he refused to acknowledge a staff email instructing him to speak English at work.

An employment tribunal heard that the ruling was made due to employees feeling “excluded” during conversations by staff speaking in their native languages.

Raj Rangla allegedly failed to co-operate with the email instructions from Trust Group UK.

Rangla speaks fluent English and Punjabi, and is encouraged to converse in both languages with customers at the Aston-based company.
