One in five employers believe that workers are working productively for less than five hours a day – and smartphones are to blame.
55% of employers assume that workers are idling their time away texting, followed by browsing the internet, gossiping and social media.
However, only ten per cent of candidates with smartphones cited their phones as a distraction at work, according to research by Harris Poll commissioned by CareerBuilder. Two out of three candidates admitted to using their phone several times a day at work.
Of those using their phones at work, 65% owned up to using it for personal messaging, 51% were checking out the weather and 44% read the news.
