Mike Ashley says Sports Direct staff were paid below minimum wage

After months of resistance, Mike Ashley, Founder and Deputy Chairman of Sports Direct, appeared in front of MPs following a slew of negative reports about the firms warehouse in Derbyshire.

During the appearance he admitted that staff were paid below minimum wage as security checks on those leaving the premises created a bottleneck.

“I've discovered some issues and I've hopefully addressed some of those issues. Bottlenecks at security are the main issue,” he told MPs.  

He also confirmed that HMRC are investigating the matter and that Sports Direct are also conducting an internal investigation.
