Woman loses job offer after rec firm tells her to remove head scarf

A woman has had a job offer revoked after a recruitment firm informed her she could not wear her head scarf as it violated employer policy.

Swedish citizen Ruya El Hattawi interviewed for a summer position at spice and condiment giant Santa Maria, the conversation was filmed by a recruitment agency and subsequently sent to the company – The Local reports.

She was offered the job and told to start in June, before receiving a call from the recruitment company telling her some “bad news”.

“A few weeks later I received another call from the recruitment agency, who said they had a bit of bad news,” she said. “Santa Maria had double checked their hygiene policy and therefore couldn’t employ me.”
