Man gets a year paid 'holiday' after HR fudges redundancy

The old adage of HR being a glorified secretarial department is a stereotype the industry has long worked against, but one story from a man working in the IT sector has highlighted how HR can fail when administrative tasks overtake the human side of the function.

The man, reported as Anj by website The Register, worked at a broadcasting equipment company whose office moved from the UK to the USA.

Anj and his colleagues were told they would be made redundant just before Christmas, and were told to come in on January 1 for their severance packages.

Anj could not attend the office until January 3, and when he arrived was told that HR did not have a severance package for him and was told to “find something to do”.
