4 tips on managing mental health in the workplace

Mental health absences account for nearly half of all long-term absences at a cost of £30billion, and around one in six UK workers experiences stress, depression or anxiety which affects their work.

During Mental Health Awareness Week Alexandra Mizzi, Senior Associate at Howard Kennedy, gave her four tips on how to manage mental health in the workplace to HR Grapevine.  

“Many mental health conditions constitute a disability under the Equality Act, giving protection against discrimination and triggering the duty to make reasonable adjustments. It’s often safest to assume that a worker with a significant health condition is disabled for legal purposes,” she says.

“Employers also have a duty of care to take reasonable steps to ensure employees’ safety at work, including preventing foreseeable psychiatric injury.”
