Only 16% of employees speak to their managers about their career goals regularly.
However, almost two-thirds of employees (60%) would like to converse more about their career goals, according to the Global Career Conversations Study report by UK Right Management.
Furthermore, 73% said they would be more inclined to stay in the organisation if more career goal conversations were had.
“Current performance review structure is failing,” Ian Symes, General Manager at UK Right Management, says. “Many businesses are still using the same career development processes that they did in the 1970s. But, modern working relationships require a modern dialogue, and in order to get the most out of employees, these conversations should be taking place more frequently, rather than once a year.”
