Nikki Craig, DHL Supply Chain's SVP HR UK&I, on the talent pool HR's missing out on

Ex-military personnel can bring a wealth of experience and skills to the workplace, with figures from Barclays estimating that 12,000 to 20,000 veterans are leaving the UK army every year, many of whom are working age.

With thousands of high-skilled potential staff out there, it is up to businesses to utilise them in a way that is beneficial to both employer and employee.

Speaking to HR Grapevine, Nikki Craig, SVP HR UK&I at DHL Supply Chain, gave her advice on how fellow HR leaders and business leaders can tap into the talent pool of ex-military personnel: “Service leavers provide a skilled and dedicated pool of talent from which I would encourage other HR professionals to recruit.

“The skills that military personnel develop whilst in service can be easily transferred to civilian careers. Often individuals with a military background are excellent leaders and have good practical skills as well, making them ideal candidates for a wide range of roles across all levels of business.
