PayPal using all-male panel to counter diversity

Online payments company PayPal has come under scrutiny after revealing their plans to host a forum on workplace diversity- chaired by an all-male panel.

The event is being organised by employee community Unity, Women@PayPal, and is scheduled for 27 April. The announcement immediately caused an online furore on Twitter and Facebook, until the group’s President Nolwenn Godard was forced to issue a follow-up statement on her Facebook page.

She wrote: “For this panel our intent is to bring together our male allies to work with us on inclusion. The title of the panel is ‘Gender Equality and Inclusion in the Workplace: a Conversation with our Male Allies’.

“Unfortunately the full title and the intention of the panel did not make it on to the initial posters that have been the subject of commentary.”
