What HR can learn from William Shakespeare's As You Like It

The Bard's immortal words are often seen as sources of inspiration even in the most modern of scenarios, so what can HR learn from this tale of love and exiles? 

"I like this place and willingly could waste my time in it."- Celia, Act II Scene IV.

Creating a working environment that employees want to come to is a challenge, especially now with companies offering the prospect of flexible working. The traditional concept of the nine to five appears unnecessary to millennial generations, who are so well versed in technology that they can work from anywhere.

Michelle Adams, Head of Leadership, Talent and Resourcing at O2, speaking to HR Grapevine said: "This is particularly true for the next generation, who have grown up in the midst of the digital revolution and know they can easily fit their entire workspace in their pockets. After all, if Shakespeare was around today, would he really be writing ‘As You Like It’ hunched over a desk? Of course not – he’d be tapping away on a tablet in Regents Park and scribbling sonnets on the Central Line!"
