Hundreds of jobs have been put at risk at national supermarket Sainsbury’s, as the retailer significantly reduces the number of in-store staff trainers.
The chain has begun consultations with their 870 training staff, discussing possible alterations to their jobs. The Guardian reports that Sainsbury’s would ideally like to employ just 280 of them to work as senior trainers across several stories, and would attempt to deploy the rest.
Sainsbury’s said: “We’ve introduced new L&D programmes to ensure our colleagues can continue to deliver the very best service to our customers. Following this, we’re now creating a new management role that will provide enhanced training support across a number of stores. This position will replace the existing store trainer role.”
However, critics have said this decision could affect the service customers receive.
