Microsoft boss blames tech for work-life balance decline

His company is renowned for bringing cutting edge technology to the masses, but the CEO of Microsoft is adamant our obsession with tech is to blame for the modern lack of work-life balance.

Satya Nadella is at the helm of a company responsible for digital personal assistants, chat bots, HoloLens virtual-reality glasses and a slew of other tech toys, however he credits the smart phone with negatively impacting on personal relations.

“There's no such thing as balance. It's 'how do I harmonise my work and my life?'" he told Business Insider.

“When I'm with my family, doing something, say, even this weekend, tomorrow when I'm there with my daughter, I'm present. What does that presence mean? A lot of us have the residual effect of the last email, the last thing. You've got to get very, very good, I think, in modern life to not have that residual effect spoil your presence. I see people over a dinner table all on their cell phone — that's when I say, wow, that's tragic.”
