Is a 30-hour job interview too long?

The perception of time during a job interview can occasionally be warped.

A candidates answer may be short, but it can seem to last an eternity. Similarly, a one hour assessment can be over in the blink of an eye.

However, time did not seem to matter to Uber CEO Travis Kalanick when he grilled a candidate for 30 hours.

In an interview with GeekWire, Thuan Pham, Uber’s CTO and the jobseeker on the other side of the table, discussed the marathon interview process: “I met with him, and that one hour turned into two. He cancelled his subsequent meetings, which seemed like a good sign. He invited me back for more talks and ended up interviewing me for 30 hours straight, one-on-one, over two weeks. It was on Skype, too — he was traveling around the world at the time. This is how Travis does it.
