Employee tracking app sparks controversy

Should employers be allowed to track their employees’ every move?

That question is at the centre of a debate regarding a new employee tracking app called Punchtime.

“At its core, its employee metrics,” Chris Desjardins, Co-Founder and CEO of Punchtime, told CBS. “We gather information about employees every day: what they’re doing, when they’re doing it and where they’re doing it.”

While he was adamant that the app should be turned off outside of working hours, Desjardins continued that “within working hours, it’s beneficial to employees to live this type of transparency and to share with their co-workers, with their managers and everybody in the company what they’re doing at any given time and where they’re doing it.”
