The Bank of America has reportedly told its senior staff not to discuss the looming EU referendum with clients in a bid to avoid alienating customers.
The US bank told its managers last week to steer clear of discussions concerning the decision on whether the UK should leave the EU or not, the Financial Times reports.
Additionally, the bank has changed its position on whether or not it should support the ‘In’ campaign. Bank of America made plans in February to donate £100,000 to the campaign for Britain to stay in the EU. This decision has now been reversed.
One person told the Financial Times that the bank’s advice was “not an attempt to muzzle or control staff” but rather an attempt to avoid the limelight and respect UK electoral law.
