35% of staff suspect colleagues have drug problem

Over a third of UK employees know or suspect that one of their colleagues has a drug problem, according to a new report.

The study, compiled by Crossland Employment Solicitors, found that 35% of staff suspected their co-workers of taking illegal substances during, and outside of, work. Over 60% complained that mood swings, missed deadlines and calling-in sick are just some of the ways it’s affecting team performance.

The study interviewed 1,000 UK workers, and uncovered that 20% of employees do actually take, inject or smoke narcotics during the weekend and holidays. 12.5% admitted they take illegal drugs every week, and over 45% agreed with their long-suffering colleagues that it affects their performance in the office.

23% revealed they had done something illegal to fund their drug use, either in or outside of work, with 12% saying this involved work stock or cash.
