Waiters at a restaurant in Ottawa, Canada, decided to highlight the issue of workplace discrimination in a novel fashion.
Male employees at Union Local 613 dressed as waitresses - complete with high heels and dresses - to work for night shift, in order to fully understand what their female colleagues go through each night. The decision was made after local news station CBC broadcast a documentary explaining that many women felt compelled to wear “heavy makeup and sexy outfits” at work.
James Tilden, a Server at the café, commented on the cross-dressing night during an interview with CBC: “If this is what women have to deal with [when] working in restaurants, or wherever they're working, then I can't even really imagine that.”
