Women are turning to crowdfunding in a bid to afford maternity leave in America.
USA work laws do not guarantee mothers paid maternity leave, with 12 weeks of unpaid leave legislated for – and a promise that the job will still be available upon the mother’s return.
However, offering expectant mothers paid maternity leave is at the discretion of employers.
Buzzfeed reports that some women are taking the matter of maternity money online, using crowdfunding platforms to raise funds to cover their 12 weeks of unpaid leave.
