Hollywood firm implements diversity quota

The company behind a multitude of TV shows and films has introduced a pioneering new recruitment strategy.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was applauded for it diverse cast, and now Director JJ Abrams has gone one step further and introduced a policy to ensure all final shortlists for his company Bad Robot Productions are as diverse as possible.

The policy has been in place since the end of January, a fortnight after the #OscarsSoWhite controversy. Working alongside agency partner CAA and Studios Warner Bros and Paramount, the shortlists for all writing, directing and acting jobs will have a selection pool that is in direct proportion to their representation amongst the US population.

"We’ve been working to improve our internal hiring practices for a while, but the Oscars controversy was a wake-up call to examine our role in expanding opportunities internally at Bad Robot and externally with our content and partners.
