Rude bosses have happier and more satisfied employees than managers who are prone to mood-swings, according to a new study.
The surprising results show how employees with consistently rude and unfair supervisors are significantly less stressed than those managed by bosses who exhibit erratic moods and behaviours.
The study from Michigan State University was printed in the Academy of Management Journal. The results revealed that the approval ratings for consistently rude bosses stayed stable, but that the bosses prone to mood swings didn’t.
"Our findings essentially show that employees are better off if their boss is a consistent jerk rather than being a loose cannon who's fair at times and unfair at other times," the study's lead author Fadel Matta said in a statement.
