Oakman Inns' Head of HR on staff training: 'Not everyone wants to be a manager'

Employer branding is about more than just offering a place to work, according to Jill Scatchard. She is Head of HR at the restaurant group Oakman Inns. The company has been amongst the Sunday Times’ 100 Best Companies to Work For list for the past few years.

Speaking exclusively to HR Grapevine, Scatchard explains that being recognised as a great employer is paramount in a sector with a limited talent pool like the restaurant sector.

She argues that the size of the sector means candidates are very likely to know one another. Word will spread quickly whether or not an employer offers career opportunities, the chance for personal development or listens to their employees.

According to Scatchard, Oakman Inns got all those three areas covered.
