Did you work for free on Leap Day?

Leap days are often associated with marriage proposals, but now they could be awarded a more sinister connotation.

Due to the way salaries are processed in monthly rates, some UK employees could have been working for free yesterday.

According to the BBC, if you are paid by the hour or by the day, then you have received proper remuneration. However, for staff who are given an annual salary, the issue is not so straightforward.

Gary Webb, Marketing Manager at Bond Payroll Services, explained the problem to the BBC, saying: “What happens is you get one-twelfth of your annual salary every month, regardless of how many days are in the month.
