Employing non-EU workers is set to become more complex

It is looking increasingly likely that the UK government will introduce legislation that will make it harder for non-EU workers to be gain employment here.

The ongoing skills shortage has led to a wealth of skilled non-EU jobseekers taking up vacancies in the UK, and with this talent drought set to continue for a while yet more non-EU employees with the necessary skillsets will be needed.       

Speaking to Executive Grapevine, Jonathan Beech, Managing Director of Migrate UK, says: “The number of non-EU nationals employed has risen by 38,000 to 1.2million. Whilst many see this as a stick to beat the government with for failing to reduce net migration, it's also an indication of the growing skills problem in the UK, and further immigration legislation won't help.  

“Jobs have to be advertised to settled workers first before being offered to non-EU professionals so if there’s increasing numbers of people coming over for employment, it points to a burgeoning economy in the UK where employers cannot fill the vacancy with resident workers.
