It is easier to rise to the top in music than it is in any other British industry, according to new research from the Sutton Trust.
Singer Adele returned as the undisputed champion of the Brit Awards last night. She won four categories, including the award for best female British solo artist. However, new research from the Sutton Trust reveals that while 19% of Brit Award winners are privately educated, other sectors don’t have the same diversity.
The researchers behind the report Leading People 2016 looked at leading figures in ten areas. The sectors were the military, medicine, politics, civil service, journalism, business, law, music, film and Nobel Prizes.
The results reveal that the law sector was the most elitist. 74% of UK top judges serving either in the High Court or the Appeals Court were educated at independent schools.
