What would a Brexit mean for HR?

Howard Sloane, Group HR Director for Peel Ports and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, spoke to HR Grapevine about what a Brexit could mean for HR, and UK business in general.

“With the constant drama of politicians declaring 'In' or 'Out' over the last few weeks, it’s no surprise that the media has whipped this all up into a newsworthy 'hokey cokey' storm,” explains Sloane.

“In HR, it is almost irrelevant as to what the outcome will be as all that will matter will be the capabilities of the HR teams to deliver solutions in the new world whether the UK is in or out. The sorts of tasks I would expect HR to have to tackle post 23rd June 2016 would be translating changes in legislation into the workplace, broadening search capabilities in order to fill skills gaps and understanding the pressures on long-term career planning and investment benefits.

“On that last point, I would expect a much increased demand over the next few years on Pensions Specialists and Compensation Managers as the UK feels the sea change of our relationship with Europe.
