BuzzFeed's 'no white males' job ad causes social media backlash

A BuzzFeed writer has deleted her Twitter account following severe backlash from a post recruiting writers that are “not white and not male.”

Senior BuzzFeed Canada Writer Scaachi Koul tweeted that the site was looking for “Canada-centric” content, but stated that she would be less interested in hearing from writers who happened to be white and male.

"Giving ignored voices preferential treatment is not racism against white people ... it is an attempt to fix all of history," she tweeted.

However, the writer call out has been branded as unfair, with The Huffington Post reporting that The Ontario Human Rights Code stated that employers cannot advertise positions that indicate qualification “by a prohibited ground of discrimination”.
