TUC: Brexit could cost workers maternity leave

Fair treatment, maternity leave and paid holidays are just some of the worker’s rights at risk if Britain leaves the EU, according to the Trades Union Congress (TUC).

Frances O’Grady, General Secretary of the body representing British trade unions, said business interests had dominated the Brexit debate – with potential costs for workers not considered.

O’Grady told The Guardian that many rights British workers had come to rely on were in fact derived from Europe.

“Most of the rights that we depend on derive from Europe,” she said. “If you are going to have a baby, knowing whether or not, or how much paid maternity leave you are going to get might make you think quite hard about how you are going to vote.
