Bombardier workers learn of job losses over text and social media

Scores of workers from plane and train manufacturers Bombardier learnt their jobs were on the line yesterday via text messages from family and friends.

Staff at the company’s Belfast factory were scheduled to meet with management, but a leaked announcement from the company’s Canadian headquarters revealed job losses ahead of the meeting.

Worker's family and friends then began to contact them via text and social media to let them know the news. 

"It's bad enough to discover that your livelihood is under threat in the normal way, but you shouldn't find out on social media," one man at the factory who didn't want to be named told the Belfast Telegraph.
