Airport staff use light therapy to improve wellbeing

Airparks are being encouraged to use light therapy as part of their wellbeing programmes, to help employees who have to work night shifts.

Lumie, a Cambridge-based light therapy specialist, have loaned their therapeutic light boxes to workers in Luton and Birmingham Airports. This is part of an initiative to aid staff who have had their sleep patterns disturbed by unconventional working hours.

HR Grapevine spoke to Ruth Jackson, a spokesperson for the company, to enquire on the dangers faced by employees working irregular shift patterns.

She explained: “If you work night shifts, or have to adapt to rapidly changing shift schedules, then the disruption to your internal body clock or circadian rhythm can result in poor sleep quality and duration.
