A cat who has spent years patrolling a train station in West Yorkshire has received a promotion for her dedication to the job.
Felix arrived at Huddersfield Railway Station in 2011, when she was just a kitten, deployed to catch mice and rats that were in danger of infesting the area. After five years on the job, Felix was recently given the title of Senior Pest Controller, as well as a high-vis jacket and a name badge by TransPennine Express.
Felix is paid in cat treats by colleagues and commuters alike on a daily basis. However, it wasn’t always such plain sailing. When security barriers were introduced last year to stop fare-dodgers, Felix was prevented from patrolling the station for pests. Thankfully, staff realised her peril and inserted a cat flap in the side of the gate.
Chris Bamford, Customer Service Assistant at the station, said in an interview with the MailOnline: “The promotion is just a nice appreciation of Felix's work. It is a reward for nearly five years of service. Her presence just brings a smile.
